I cant get any audio frequency to my amp. Any way to test the pre-outs that come from the deck to see if they still work or should i just try new RCA's in case they got pinched somewhere along the install? Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Deck is an ALPINE CDA-7894 CD/MP3 pre-outs = (1)SUB-W (2)FRONT OUT (3)REAR OUT

try plugging in someone else's amp first to see if the amp is the problem (most common) if it still doesn't work plug the amp that you know works into a different preout on the back of the deck. If it still doesn't work try new RCAs, if that doesn't work, your deck is fried

Notch- back at ya
Shikey- I've already troubleshooted to the best of my ability and all i have left is the RCA's to replace (if needed) and test the pre-outs on the deck. The deck is brand new (less than a year and a half) and the outs have never been used until now. Amp has worked fine for me for the past 4 years, and it last worked in a car fine a few months ago.

dude, go for it then! Try new RCAs, hope that fixes the problem.
I guess to answer your original question, there really isn't a way to test the Preouts besides using another amp. Good luck

THANX, its just that i heard from someone sometime ago that Radio Shack sold some sort of tester that sends a tone or frequency through the outlet(pre-outs) and tells you if its good or not (using a led indicator) and i think they said it cost about 10 bucks. True or False?

hey outlawed94cobra, have you hit it with an multi-meter? you can ground out each one individually to the chassy, and then connect them together and ohm them in series. are you getting any current flow to it? some multimeters can double as am-meters. (some require a separate fuse) also, I would check all contacts, a little bit of crap can lead to sky-high resistance! One thing that I have seen is an amp say that its stable at 2ohms(or 1 for that matter), but it shits the pot when you configure it that way! Are the speakers ok too? maybe they are blown? I doubt that, since the problem is common to both. How many speakers are you running off of it? Hope something helps! let us know!
1992 SILVER BULLET It might be an tracking error, you can look at the book that came with it. It should contain the codes and their meanings, if you dont have it, go the manufacturers site and they should have it in a PDF format.

Keep in mind that high voltage RCA preouts can be shorted out if you allow the metal ends to contact with any metal in the car. That is the reason they come with those lil plastic or rubber covers. Also if when connected to your RCA wires you can still see metal exposed it is a good idea to tape them up so nothing can accidentaly touch them and short them out or cause noise.
Like someone stated above, an easy way to check the deck is to use one of the other preouts (assuming you have more than one set our of the deck) when doing this make sure your balance and fader controls are neutral.

no problem, hopefully that helped as for the RCA connections, the "outer" conductor is merely there for insulation/ ground to minimize interference, i would check all wiring and connections, get some contact cleaner just in case!
