How difficult is it? Can't imagine it being to hard but just wanted to see if anyone had any insight.

make sure you pull off the torque converter shield it makes it way easier or move it far engough out of the way, and the top shield on the starter solenoid is a bitch, On a small block one if it has a 454 its probably the same setup.

Hey there 91sleeper.....I'll tell you what I know...
I have a 99 Suburban 2500 and we had to change the starter last year...make sure you disconnect the battery first of all!! On the 99 model there is no cover on the starter....it was held up by 2 6-inch bolts, once you remove the bolts the starter will come out easily...make sure there are 2 wires connected to the starter (positive and negative)....now on our 99 we can reuse the heat shield from the stater cylinoid.
The 96 models and up are fairly similar so you shouldn't have any problem at all changing the starter....it took a total of 30 minutes to change it. I wish you the best of luck!! ![[dance]](graemlins/dance.gif) [ July 31, 2003, 10:01 PM: Message edited by: DeeStangGurl ]
