for now i am going to leave the bottom end alone but later i am going to build a 306 with a z cam.my car runs hard now with intake,cold air,1.7 rockers,373, lots of suspension running 13.1 with 1.4 60ft but would like to dip in mid to low 12's with a good set of heads

From my understanding(correct me if I am wrong),if you go with Trick Flow you have to get different pistons as well as pushrods. So it would be cheaper for you to go with the Afr's.

You'll need new push rods with either head and you do not need different pistons with either head.

yes 1.4 60ft with panhard bar torque arm all the seams welded up inside car and 10.5 in mh drag slicks.you have to change out the pistons with both heads? how come

i found out no piston change. put with the new pushrods will my 1.7 rockers work?also thinking of putting 1.6 rockers on intake and 1.7 on exhaust.anyone heard of this. or is it 1.7 on intake and 1.6 on exhaust.

Im sure you'll be good with whatever you choose. But i'd like to hear more about this 1.6/1.7 mix and match. I've also heard something about putting a larger inject or your #1 and #8 to prevent fuel starvation... or #1 and #5 was it?

Buy the right cam and you don't need to mix and match rockers.

the trick flow heads have 2.02 int, 1.60 exh. valves,so do the afrs depending on which model your running, those are big valves, so if i were you i would switch over to 1.6 rockers over the 1.7s, unless your using the stock cam, than 1.7 are fine, 1.7 rockers (correct me if im wrong) add .038 thousanths to your lift, soo a .500 lift cam would become a .538 lift cam, i say correct me if i'm wrong because some folks say 1.7s add .030 thousanths. But from what i found out they add .038 thousanths. Just check your piston to valve clearance if running an aftermarket cam and you'll find out foryourself if you have enough clearance. hope i helped!

You can not run the 1.7's you have with stud-mount heads. & I believe the TW's don't come with pedistal mounts. AFR's do.....but, if those 1.7's you have are the 'Cobra' RR's, they're not good rollers & should be replaced as they tend to fall apart while in use.
By the looks of your 60ft, with the right N/A combo, your stock shortblock with the right heads/cam/intake/exhaust will run 11's.
I wouldn't go with the Z303 cam. I'd choose the X303 with 1.6's or the B303 with 1.7's & install either of them on a 113ICL. Both of these cams will pass the sniffer if need be.
IMO, for an N/A car....you can't go wrong with AFR heads. The pistons will need notching if you go with 185's & a mild cam, but that really isn't a problem either. We have the tools & do side-jobs if you need it done.

Everyone told me that TFS wedge heads would be fine on a stock bottom end with TF push rods and 1.6 RR. Well, I ran that motor for a year and when I blew a HG due to the blower I had when I pulled the heads there was piston slap on 6 of 8 cylinders and all my valves were bent. I love these heads to death and have them on my new motor with no port job making 550 hp but I do think you should REALLY investigate whether or not your pistons will work.

i was just wondering how a crank out of a 289 would work with one of these combos also so i can rev it higher.or if the 289 crank would even let me rev it higher,and i will post my time slip to show you my 1.4 60ft.

they are known to rev very high. my friends dad had a 289 in his 66 and took it above 6k alot with no problems. too bad he sold it but he did get a 99 z28 with a nice vortech setup under the hood [ July 15, 2003, 05:55 PM: Message edited by: cobraman_1994 ]
