Here we go. [Roll Eyes] [Big Grin]

I think as far as brands, its all personal preference.....I personally like Castrol Syntec and Mobil 1....I'm a firm believer in fully synthetic oils...

My personal reasons:

Mobil 1 is the factory oil brand that Corvettes/ZO6's, Porsche's and even Boeing 747's use....

Castrol has been a sponser of Ford factory teams like, WRC-rally cars and F1 cars and others for YEARS!...

The most important choice is to get the correct viscosity, (ex. 10w30-20w50, etc).......If you burn oil, have a problem with "blow-by" or live in a hot climate, then a "thicker" higher viscosity oil should be used...In cooler weather you need a "thinner" lower viscosity oil...Every car is different, its best to refer to the owners manual for the best viscosity oil for your engine...

I recently spent a lot of time trying to find the answer to this question. After gathering data from the net, magazines, manufacturers, etc., I came up with the following. Amsoil has the lowest coefficient of friction, followed by redline. However, the amsoil is more acidic, which is not good for metal parts; I found some reports that after a few hundred miles the amsoil coefficient of friction increases due to the reaction with metal. There are a lot of opinions out there and it is often difficult to sort fact from opinion, but after my research, I finally decided to put redline in my cobra.

C'mon, your friends engine didnt blow up because he had Castrol in it...It blew up because he either didnt have enough Castrol or he had a mechanical problem....Thats like saying, after I put my K&N on my engine it blew up... [Roll Eyes]

Just curious, but why are you stuck on Valvoline, Royal Puple and Amsoil ?...I'm sure they all have the same "API" service rating of SL or SJ....If your worried about the quaility of you oil, what kind of oil-filter do you use?....

I will second Cobra 97 with the Mobil 1 filter and I also put Red Line oil over Valvoline, Royal Purple and Amsoil... [patriot]

I've probably put more miles on my 'stang than all the people that have replied before me combined using "the classics". That being, FRAM oil filter or what not and 99 cents per quart oil or what not. I expect to break the 240,000 mile mark next month. 105,000+ miles of them put on by me. What's my "secret".... not the brand of oil or filters I use, that's for sure [patriot]

I don't think the brand is the thing to worry about but the viscosity(sp?). Make sure you have the right grade oil ex:10w30 or whatever and change the oil often. I have 151,000 miles on my five liter and it's still running hard. I run Castrol 10w30 and like it a lot.

i have 157,000 and use a different types just depends on if it is a decent price for me i usually use quaker state or castrol it seems to run the same either way and always use kn oil filters. it is just matter of preference but i think more importantly is to change your oil every 3,000 or so.
