yeah, it sounds like your balancer broke. Not sure how hard a fix it will be but any good auto. place should do it.

Yup the balancer is shot. Get a Romac for a good quality unit or just a Ford replacement to get running again.
Not hard to change yourself. You'll need to pull the fan and fan shroud, crank pulley and then the balancer. You're going to need a puller/installer. Some kits do both or you may need to get them seperate. Find a buddy with one or rent it from the auto parts store. They usually rent them for no charge. Don't try to remove or install without the proper puller and/or installer. You can fug up your crank snout and then the job just got a whole lot more expensive.
It's not hard to do at all so long as you have the right tools. And like I said you can most likely get them from the local auto parts store on loan for nothing.
Good luck. Sean

Then why would you upgrade?
I raced a Fox Body stang in Fremont about 2 years ago and at the end of the race my car was vibrating like HELL!...I won the race and I didnt want to look like my car was falling apart after I raced it (which it was)...So, I drove it home (about a mile) and found that the harmonic balancer had seperated and flew into my timming cover and carved a nice hole in it!...
I ordered a new factory balancer from Ford ($135)and installed it in less about 2 hours....All you need is a "pulley puller"(tool) and to remove the radiator for extra room...
If you need help PM me....
