Whelp... My 95 GT 5.0 is still pinging. It does it under light (very light, first gear accelerating at 20% throttle) load. I'm running 89 chevron, with some lucas FI cleaner and some cheapo octane booster. The timing comes out to 9 deg (1 above stock), and I've replaced the fuel filter. I'm about to run some GM Top End cleaner through it as soon as I get my hands on some... But would anyone have any ideas as to what other simple reasons could be causing this?

First you want a solid tank of 91octane gas....Some fuel injection additives cause detonation...
Second check to make sure that the outside of the harmonic balancer can not move by hand...Sometimes the outer part(the part with the timming # or marks on it) can seperate from the inside bolted part...The only thing holding the 2 hamonic balancer parts together is a type of rubber silicon...If they are seperated you will get a false reading when checking the timming...
Third, What kinda plugs you runnin?

You should really be running 91 in your car anyways due to the heat out here. If your car has been getting real hot lately then that will do it too. Or, if you just have to many miles on it then the carbon build up will make it ping too

Hmm... I had my plugs changed during a tune up, and all I know is that they're platinum something. I'm a little hesitant to rely on just running higher octane (I mean the car IS bone stock), so having to pay an extra 4 bucks per fullup for the rest of my life seems kind of annoying. And as for the EGR codes, from what I've been told, I'd get a check engine light if I was getting EGR problems right? And none of those lights have shown up so far... I'll run the tank low and try a fresh one of 91 to see what happens all the same.

maybe they put the wrong plugs in? Pull em and see what they are. Try some autolite 25's. Good plug for only .99
