Something is wrong here and I know that much! My brothers 89 GT is got way to much oil pressure at idle it reads 80 psi and at full throttle it pegs the 100 psi limit. Hes running a auto meter mechanical oil pressure gauge with no kink are tight bend in the line hes running 20-50 oil but just switched to 10-30 to see if it does any thing. He has also got the Melling high VOLUME pump but im sure that it doesn't produce that much pressure. We are trippin that it might burn a bearing or blow out seals. help us out.

If the plug for the pressure relief spring was pushed in too far then the Pressure can run that high. Had it happen on my first 289 rebuild. I highly recommend a new stock pump w/ hardened shaft unless you plan top spend lots of time over 6000rpm.

I agree, people stick on these high volume and high pressure oil pumps on their 302's for no reason. When was the last time any of you saw a 302 die from lack of an oiling system? [Confused] I haven't seen one [patriot]

My oil pressure reads the same FWIW. It's just robbing a few HP and isn't gonna hurt anything.

You got that kind of pressure running through your Novi?
I would think you'd want to limit it to ~50-60psi...

With the tiny hole that actually feeds the oil tot he gears I seriously doubt the pressure matters.

Did you tear down the motor or just replace the pump. If you just replaced the pump are you sure it is a high vol and not a high psi. Eather way you should be ok. If you tour dowm the motor it might be a main brg in wrong (up side down) or some other prob. Not much help but the six pack before this thread was [Cool]

waaaaaaay to high, my melling hi volume pump at idle sees like 40 psi. At normal driving sees about 65 psi and at WOT sees upto 75 psi. This is all on a brand new motor. 80 is just too high.
