i was just wondering cause i have an 89 im the 3rd owner, and in the receipts there is one for a custome set of 3:55 gears so if they are stock why would someone pay almost 800 to have them put in??? thats why i was wondering, it just led me to believe that 3:55 werent stock

3.55's were not stock on fox bodies!!!!!
2.73's were stock on 5 speeds, and 3.08's on auto. And some people (very rare) had Ford upgrade there 5 speed to 3.08's. So if yours is a 5 speed, stock was 2.73, if its an auto, they were 3.08's.
So the $800 for 3.55's is valid.
Edit: maybe not $800...but the swap is valid [ May 18, 2003, 10:20 PM: Message edited by: Chico Stang ]

The 3.27's pretty much only came on AOD cars. Some dealerships use to install what ever gears you wanted though, but this is rare. Especailly in California.

Well the dealer won't change the door tag that is set at the factory. Another cheesy way to determine gear ratio is to remove the 11mm bolt holding the VSS sensor in place and seeing what color the speedometer gear is. This is of course assuming that your speedometer is accurate.
