Hey guys, I drive a 95 GT, and I was wondering if anyone could help me with this sound I'm hearing.
Any time I floor it (maybe about 60-100% WOT), I'll hear this strange ... tinkling sound? It's reminiscent of a lightbulb fuse dangling around, except its coming from the engine. The first owner took good care of it, but the engine still feels somewhat weaker than another 5.0 I test drove awhile ago. If anyone has any experience with this, I'd be grateful.

If you run 87 octane, your timing needs to be down to about 8-10 degrees.

So has anyone here ran 87 on a stock 5.0 with no problems? Or do they all require higher octane?
I feel kinda gipped having to do more than the manufacturer required =__=

you can get away with running 87 but if you want to get good performance(and no knock) then pay for the premium . Its a small price to pay for the performance and longevity of your engine. Also, if you run 87, you have to back your timing down and get a hotter running car that doesnt burn as effectively anyways so you really arent paying more for good fuel when it comes down to it

see if the sound goes away if you put 91 octane in. your car is 10 years old, you cant expect it to run like new

Hmm I never really paid attention to that. Both my parents' cars only fill up on 87, and we always look for the cheapest price. The cheapest 87 is 1.83 so far... so 2.13 sounds about right for 91 considering the 10 cent rise per 10 octanem trend (and also an additional roughly 10 cent discount for the cheapest grade gas supply/demand wise). But yea, I was just reading this one thread about a guy who advanced his timing 13 degrees on the stock motor and runs 87 without pinging and got jealous -_-.
