I am so confused that I am going to let somebody else pick the cam for my car.
1965 Mustang
1969 289 block bored .030 with 9.75-1 Federal Mogul Pistons. 302 crank, Summitt Stage 2 Connecting rods.
I was planning on using the Edelbrock aluminum heads with the smaller valves. I would like a somewhat rough idle and am looking for a good amount of power out of the motor.

Other options I'd look into: The Comp XE line of cams. XE274 & up.

I don't have any hp now because the car is in as many peices as it possibly could be. I am doing a full restoration and hoping for 300+ to the wheels. I would probably be willing to run you when it is all finished and broken in.

I remember you. What's up? Does your cousin still have those wheels on his truck? I was looking at the 280H lineup and am probably going to order one tomorrow. Too bad Summitt tries to make it difficult to get a "kit" that would suit my needs.

I need alot more info then what you gave to try to pick a cam. Answer the following questions and we should be able to nail it. Ignition system Desired power band (Example 1500 to 5500) gear ratio transmission torque converter stall (if auto) intake manifold carb Head castings these are the things to consider when picking a cam as well as knowing what the different specs of a cam will make the engine do. I.E. lobe seperation. duration @.050" lift, and lobe centers.

JK brings up several necessary things to consider about picking up a cam. Assuming, that everything else is stock or close to it, the 268 or 280 series comp cams are pretty good, especially if you want a lopier idle. another thing to consider are valve reliefs and springs.

Well Valve Springs are easy. Buy the ones recomended by the manufacturer for that cam and you will be good to go. As far as valve reliefs the casting of the head will determine that then we will see if any blending or proting will be necessary.
