anyone ever done a powersteering pump change, mine is leaking fluid quite a bit and it still the original one on the car so i think im gunna go ahead and swap it out for a new one and replace the high pressure hoses also, i was wondering if anyone had ever done it and if i needed a special tool, a guy i was talking to about my car said that i needed a special attachment to get the pulley off the pump, any help would be awsome. thanks so much

Take your pump to a shop and get the pulley taken off and then the pulley put onto the NEW pump. It is 15 bucks give or take a few. That way you know you ain't gonna break anything! Other than that, everything is super easy regarding taking off the hoses and unbolting it from the car. Not hard at all. No special tools needed if you jave sockets and open end wrenches available. Just pay someone to take the pulley off and put the new one on, simple.

Where is it leaking from? You sure its not a hose/hose connection?

if u want to drive to fairfield next weekend i can take the pulley off the pump and put it on the new one (free of charge, just buy me a burrito), i have 2 different puller kits and have used them before so i know i can do it, i am on my fourth power steering pump on my truck, and by the way, u dont need to replace the hoses unless they are cracking really bad, it is a real bitch and they are hard to find, and if u dont have decent knowledge of how to work on cars, get a power pump that already has a reservoir attached to it, it will cost more but it will be worth not having to reuse the stock res., pm me if u want me to do the res

thanks so much for all the info, i have done a few things on my car, my friends and i put a new engine it it last year and i replaced the smog pump a few weeks ago, it was kinda strage that the powersteering pump started to leake almost at the same time the smog pump went, i was wondering if it might have be when the smog pump went out it damaged the steering pump, either way its making way way to much noise latley so i think its best to replace it

if it makes noise, its not good, definetly replace it before it locks up, then u will have to replace it for sure so u might as well do it now and if u were able to swap an engine, u can do the power steering with out the res., the swap will be easy then, so do u need me to do the pulley swap or are u gonna have a shop do it [ March 14, 2003, 06:17 PM: Message edited by: 66 AC COBRA ]

i will be in concord a few days during the week of march 31-april4, if u dont know anyone who owns a shop they are gonna rape u with a one hour charge of $80, if it comesdown to it, u could just rent the puller from pepboys, that would probably be the way to go
