I have an 88 lx that I converted to mass air. The car was m/t when i did this and I had no problems other than thermactor codes. I then switched to an a/t and swapped computers with the guy I got the a/t from. This was about 6 months ago. After the swap I always had a KOER code of always reading lean at idle. I also have an a/f ratio gauge in my car that confirms this. The gauge will read a steady reading without searching. It idles fine. It searches crusing down the road though. Today i tried to run a KOER test and the scanner says vehicle not responding. It will run a KOEO test though. This computer also has to have an extra ground run into one of the diagnostic harness wires or the car wont run. Any help please...

Was the AT computer from an 89+ car with a MAF or speed density?...
.....You could have a few wires in the wrong terminals in the computer if the computer is originally a MAF computer...
The wire I'm thinkin about, could be the wire for the "Vehicle Speed Sensor" on the side of the Manual trany...Could it be different for an AT?..

I believe this is due to the EEC thinking the car is in gear and therefore won't run the engine on test. Check/wire that circuit so the EEC thinks the car is out of gear all the time.

The car the 89 car the comp and a/t came from were original and had no codes. As far as the VSS, that is a possiblity because my car doesnt have one at all, just a cable. On the EEC thinking the car is in gear, it does, because one of the codes I get from KOEO is 67. The scanner says that has to do with the Park/ Neutral switch is open. It also lists other reasons under code 67.

Well it looks like we know what your problems are now....
The EEC won't do an engine on test with a code 67, so fix that and as for not having a VSS, the EEC uses that sensor when rolling to a stop.

Wire the neutral switch/harness so it doesn't think the car is in gear and you will be able to scan for codes with the car running, end of story

Cool, I'm glad I could help.
As for your other codes:
91 means the left bank is reading lean. Check this sensor and check the injectors in this bank (injector balance test.
41 is the same as above, but right bank. If you're getting both codes at once, A) make sure the engine has full warmed up before running the engine on test and B) make sure the O2 sensors are properly grounded (ring connector behind the drivers side cylinder head).
81 and 82 are the TAB and TAD soleniods... are they hooked up or did you delete the smog stuff on the passenger side strut tower?
95 is the fuel pump circuit. If you notice no abnormal fuel pump activity, this can be a 'phantom' code the EEC throws. [ March 09, 2003, 02:14 PM: Message edited by: st5150 ]

Great info, thanks. Ill check my grounds, maybe they got disconnected in the swap. I did remove all of my smog equipment, but the solenoids are still hooked up. Even though I pulled my smog stuff (so I know its my fault the codes are there) is the any way to fool the computer into not showing codes? I have a mechanical fuel press gauge hooked up and it reads normal all the time, so I should disregard the code 95?

As for making the EEC not throw those codes, you'll need a 'custom chip' or eec tuner of sorts.
For the code 95, if your fuel pump always primes when you put the key in the on position (doesn't run all the time) and always shuts off when you put the key in the off position, then don't worry about code 95 because its obviously wrong. Its often called a 'phantom code' that some EEC's/cars give.
