Hi all~
I just bought a 91 GT Fast back and I need tires. I am running the pony wheels 16x7 front and back. I will be lowering it 1- 1 1/2" and do not want rubbing problems. What is the biggest size I can fit with out problems. I just bought 245/50/16 for the rear but it sounds like I can run them up front and buy larger for the rear. Thanks for any help.

you can pretty much run whatever you want if you get the fender lips rolled. I know Penninsula302 has 275's in the back of his that rub so he needs to roll the lips. I'm guessing this will help you a little bit [patriot]

Thanks, What I want to know is what size can I run with out removing fender wells or rolling lips. I will be lowering it 1" to 1 1/2" and don't want it to rub.

With only a 7 inch wide rim I believe 245's will be as wide as you can go with out worrying about rubbing.

Yeh, I want to run as large as I can for now with the 16" ponys and later I will do the bear racing break to 5 lug chang over then go to a larger size. But you think the 245/50/16 will be fine up front with out rubbing or fender mods.

With 16X7 " Pony's, I would not recommend going with 245's in the front...It might look good but that tire is too big for the rim...Your car will handle like shit, totally unpredictable...Its OK to put 245's in the back, for "hookin up", but no way up front....

I'd stick with 225's up front until you get your 5 lug kit....

I have some 5 lug '94 GT 16" Ponies for sale..It might make your conversion easier and cheaper..

I had 245's all around on my 87 gt and everything was coo with that. I had no problems at all with rubbing but my car handeled great! [burnout]

My old 88 GT, was more then 2 inches lowered, I would say prolly 3 in all. Had 255/50/16 in the rear, and 245/45/16 up front. No rubbing at all. Just a lot of this [burnout] . Hope this helps you, go with the bigger tire and dont worry about rubbing at this moment.

i had the 245/50/16 comp ta's on my old mustang dayssssssssssssssssssssssssssss ago...dont remember em rubbing...looked good too....

If you have 245/50/16's on your 16x7 Pony's, you are actually INCREASING the side wall of your stock tire...If you think by adding side wall to your tire it will make you car handle better then you are wrong!!!!....*Having less sidewall increases lateral stability and increases steering response...
The correct plus size for 225/55/16 is 235/50/16 with a 16x7" wheel...if you go any bigger, for handeling purposes, then you need a bigger rim...

I put 245's on the back of my Mustang purely for hooking up....When I would change lanes on the freeway too fast I would have to wait for the rear to catch back up...It never did that with the stock 225's on the back..and it doesnt do it with my 17x8 '99 Cobra wheels with 245's either..

For my self I went with the 245/50/16 because that is what was on it when I just got the car and they were bald as hell. The front had 225/50/16 and it looked real small. I like the look of the 245's and this is just a second car ( well really fourth) for me not a race car. I have a 71 chevy pu for that. I just wanted it to look good and not rub and also I did not want to have to cut out the world to make them not rub.

I have a friend who has a 93 LX 5.0 and he put Ebach Sportlines which dropped it 2" up front and 1"3/4 in the rear then put 255-40-17 on 95 Cobra R wheels all around without rubbing. I have heard people putting 275's out back but it is up to you. That is my suggestion to give you an idea on what you can do.

I would not recommend anything bigger than a 225 in the front, and that is DEFINATELY, do not listen to other people. If you want more meat on your tires, get a bigger size rim and lower size profile tire.

I have 225/55s on the front and it DOES rub pretty hard during a U turn or if I have more than 2 people in the car it will rub on hard turns. You might have more room with the 91 fenders, but it will probably rub during a u turn.

I have 16x8 wheels and am lowered 1.5"

blackdrop50, good call, mine was stock height and had nooooooooo issues with the 245's..then when i lightened the piss out of it and put the eibach drag springs in it...car sat like a 4x4 but dead hooked w/ the et drags [Smile]
