this rebuild is gonna have to come soon. my oil problem is getting pretty bad. the other day i was driving it, and noticed that the oil pressure is getting less everyday i drive. at hot idle now, its sitting pretty at about 12.5psi. when i give it gas, it likes to bounce from over 50, to below 25.
i don't have a very big budget (maybe 2000 if i stretch it). i need all kinds of help. i got quoted for a rebuild for 1395 + tax. i checked out the shop, and it seems like a kool place. school starts soon for me, so im not gonna have the time to tear it down myself like i would prefer. basically, at this time, im just looking to rebuild. if anyone knows of someone selling a low mileage 5.0 longblock, then let me know. if someone has some pointers, shoot them out. as far as im concerned, this engine is gone.
need lots of help. thanks everyone. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

Are you sure your guage isn't screwed? Even if its not, 5.O's are known for lasting ages with poor oil pressure. With that said, if and when my motor goes, I'll be looking for an Explorer long block from Ford. Around $1400 and you can't beat Ford quality when it comes to assembling 302's. Swap your water pump, timing chain cover, oil pan and brakets on that long block and you're set for another 175,000 miles. Put on some good valve springs, a comp cam extreme series cam, roller rockers and your favorite after market intake and you'll run solid 12's

no way. You need a B-303 cam installed 4 degrees retarded! then you can run mid 11's around 117 if you can find an explorer intake in the bushes somewhere!
(btw, OE valvesprings probably can't handle much cam, not a big deal, just an observation from someone who's been there, got the T-shirt, and floated the valves)

When I pulled my original 302 it had only ~118k miles (last 10k were very hard )
but it had these great features:
blew oil from every seal far as I could tell (PCV area, rear main, past the rings internally, and a little around the valve covers just to keep things nice and oily)
*5 minutes after startup had zero PSI at 800 rpms idle. *Hot starts were met with cool rod knock sounds *I'd have to rev the car to 1500-2000 rpms to maintain 20 PSI of oil pressure (all oil pressures were confirmed with an autometer mechanical gauge) *ran 12.6s @ 106 on a high 1.6 60' blowing so much smoke out the tailpipes I couldn't see out the rear view. Chevy SBC guys were coming up to me at Sears Point and asked me if "I had a little blow-by" lol. *compression numbers were in the 120-130 range across all 8 (compare to 170 ish readings on my current 56k mile shortblock, and 160 ish for my old motor when I first got it around 108k miles)
so check some of these things. Or be like st5150 and smoke a little, top up your oil, and smile about it
If I weren't getting the rod-knock, (kinda like an old diesel noise) around idle (scarily verifying my zero oil pressure) I probably wouldn't have pulled it in the first place.
I poked around in my oil pan and there were hardly any bearing flakes, implying that there really wasn't much damage taking place, but still the problem needed to be addressed.
