Well, this worked for me. I jabbed the edge of it with a flathead screwdriver for the extraction, and then used the old one (reversed it) to *gently* and *patiently* tap the new one in with a mallet over a small block of wood. The goal there is to get it to seat uniformly, vs. 'packing' one edge in and then tweaking/bending it when you go to the other side to bash the opposite end in.
hope this made some sense. I'm 1/1 on rear main seals ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

you gotta work, with getting it out, and then work even harder getting it in, it will go in just takes alittle time and patience, spring loaded seals arn't fun. ![[BS flag]](graemlins/bs_flag.gif)

I drilled a small hole in the old seal, put a screw in it & used a hammer to pry it out. Then intalled the new one by reversing the old one like Shadetree said.

woooo hoooo for rear mains :flipoff: if you scratch that crank surface....or if it is scratched (hence the leak) you are going to be one pissed off sunzab!tch. I did a rear main 3 times before I realized the crank had the tiniest scratch which would wear away the seal in the course of 1 week.
I like the "drill a hole plan." good idea! never would have thought of it.

If it makes you feel better...I checked out the belly of my T5 while I had it jacked up to install my race crank pulley...there was a drop of oil hanging there and the underside of my T5 had an oil sludge build up.
