Must the stock oil and water gauges be connected to a ground on a 91 mustang? I just finished installing the engine back into the car.. After I bolted everything back on I fired the engine and noticed the pointer needle on both the oil pressure and water gauge are WAY below the 0 dash reading.
Both are conneted to their sensor, I just can't remember if they need to be connected to a ground?Can ANYONE help me out please?

I'm not sure I understand your question.... the guages are suppose to be connected to to the appropriate sensor, 1 wire to each sensor. The guage cluster is grounded somewhere under the dash to complete the circuit.

.....and make sure you re-attached all of your engine grounds. This is how your sending units receive their grounds ![[Smile]](smile.gif)
If the gauges worked before the engine removal...I'm willing to bet you left a ground off the car somewhere when you installed the engine.

Yes, the senders ground themselves by their threads. That's why you're only supposed to put a little thread sealer on them. There needs to be at least some metal to metal contact between the senders and their housings.

Also.... the engine temp and oil pressure wires run together and the connector on the end of them is the same..... are you sure you didn't mix them up by mistake?

I rechecked all my connections and found that I didn't connected the ground from the engine to the bay chassis.
btw I also installed an autometer oil pressure gauge and it read the same as the stock oil gauge? AND yes the autometer gauge is connected right.
So I'll see what happens when I attach the ground to the engine. Hope this is my problem, because everything else is connected!
