The stock guage's needle physically can't move further up than one notch from the middle line
Can't say what your guage will read since no one knows what condition your motor is in. What you should notice is higher oil pressure on a cold start and have it lower as your engine gets warm. 20+ psi at idle and 50ish durring cruise is good enough.

Really!?! My new motor stays peged at that line. Hot, cold, idle, WOT, all the time.

Well who knows what oil pump and bearing clearances your stroker bottem end has Top that off with the sending units being not very accurate at all.
If you ever have the guage cluster lense off, move the oil pressure needle up with your finger. You'll notice it physicly can't move past one notch above the middle.

Oil pump is just a STD Melling I threw on. The 'old' motor always read ~halfway. I believe the Melling has a pressure releif @ 80psi. Don't really care how accurate the guage is. It'll still read 0 if it ever gets there!

Yeah, 302's are known for living forever, even with low oil pressure. "They" say 7 psi per every 1000 RPM, but I think that number is still on the conservative side. I don't know why people stick these high volume or high pressure pumps on these motors when they're not known for having oiling problems. What they are known for is twisting or snaping oil pump shafts... which high pressure/high volume are known to cause.

Hey, lets pump all the oil to the top of the motor, draining the oil pan & starving my mains for lubrication.....all at 6000rpm at the racetrack. Must be a chevy thing.
