Topic: how do you change a tie rod end?

i know how to get it off the spindle, but then what? do you just unscrew the tie rod off? also, do i need to grease it? last question... i bought 1 moog brand tie rod, am i ok just changing 1 side? cause that's the only one thats bad. i have a chiltons manual, but it doesnt say anything about this. well, thanks for the help. ![[worship]](graemlins/worship.gif)

jon. pretty much what you said. after you take it off the spindle, just unscrew it from the rack's inner tie rod. there is a locking nut on the inner tie rod. after you loosen the locking nut, mark the threads so that you get the new tie rod were the old one was. thats about it.

You'll probalbly need the tie rod end seperator tool. You can buy or rent one from most local parts stores.
I needed one when I replaced my rack and pinion.

Does yours squeak when you turn the wheel or go over bumps? My beater does that and I'm thinking that it's the tie rod end.

FYI I just bought my tie rod end separator at Kragen for $15. If you don't know it looks like a u shaped magnet that is shaved at the end so you can get underneath the tie rod, and has a handle.

thanks for the tips. my tie rod does not squeek, but it makes a loud pop whenever i get on the brakes hard. i'm just gonna rent a puller from autozone cause its free there.
