Question for you guys. One of my boyz just got a 98 cobra, nice car only 20k on the clock. However, now when he starts the car a white greyish smoke comes out of the tail pipes and smells like a burning smell. Any ideas what the hell is causing it. The oil looks ok.

White smoke out of the pipes when you start your car usually means valve guides. That sounds prety unusual for a 20k mile car. Does it have any mods?

If its only when he starts it. It could just be water in the cats.

Condensation in the pipes if it only happens on start up but if its doing it while driving he probably has a blown head gasket.

Does it happen every start or 1 out of every 5 - 10 starts? I remember talking to someone about this problem and the cobra motors. If it happens every so often then it has something to do with what position the cams happen to stop in when you shut off the car. An exhaust or intake valve is open slightly and a little oil drips in. Nothings wrong with the motor. I'm pretty sure this was a know issue with some of the cobra motors. I don't think there was anything they could do. I'm going by memory so I might not be totally accurate. I hope this helps.
