Ok Im 14 and lookin for a car I want a "mod" motor and cant have a cobra for a first car. I know where I can get a 96-98 2v gt for 800 bucks. How hard would it be to do this switch from a 5.0 and who can do how much will it costect.....

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking to do, but for the record the motors in fox body cars are 2 valve 5.0's. It sounds like you want to put a 4.6 motor in a fox body. Why would you want to do that? The 5.0 motor has a lot of potential to go fast if that's what you're looking for.

that would be a waste of money unless it was a cobra motor. but still, you blow something up (wich seems happens to a lot of us. lmfao ) it will cost a pretty penny to fix. but with a pushrod motor, you can baiscly go to kragen and get a brand new one . so stick with the 5.0 and mod the fuck out of it, and learn how to drive it.

unless you're looking to race in NMRA mod motor class (while this is still a legal swap) I wouldn't do it. The 5 liter motor in stock form has more potential for power with all-motor bolt-ons.
Boosted, the 2 valve can keep up with the 5 liter.
edit: I wouldn't even consider a modular 2V unless it was the '99 + [ October 13, 2002, 10:42 PM: Message edited by: shade-tree ]

do your parents know about cars? you could always "make a mistake" and get a cobra motor or a 351 but i would learn about the 5.0 you have first, then start getting into the serious speed

LoL I cant accidently put a cobra motor in it. My dad has a 98 Cobra to many mods to list ( I hate typing) and my mom has a 99gt 35 anniversary with 3:73s, eibachs, and flowmaster cat-back. The reason I was gonna go with the 96-98 gt motor is because I was just gonna do the PI head cam intake swap and have the power of the new gts in a lightwieght coupe. The driving part Im not gonna jump in and try to power shift or anything but i do have some driving hours in I get to drive the cobra alot, I was going to get a 93 cobra but my mom threw a fight. Damn her, I know that 5.0s have alot of potentiol I like the way the mod motor maddness is coming along.Thanx for not flaming me because im 14 I get that alot on the corral. I love cars and im gonna go to technical school someday.I have already had the pleasure of installing headers, x-pipe, 6spd tranny(just helped) no2 250 shot, and a holley intake all on my buddys coupe he has money if u cant tell.

sounds like an incredible pain in the ass to me. heads/cam/intake on your 5.0 will be more powerful, easier, and cheaper than PI heads/cams in your 96-98 GT and no motor swap is necessary. I haven't a clue where 'Bonham' is, but if you're in California you'll be spared the indignity of being forced to a smog referee and dealing with all his challenges.

just take that $800 and by yourself a used supercharger and some used slicks...you'll feel a lot more power with that ...do i here low 12's? hehehe..thats the way to go and it just bad ass to have a blower....i'd be scared to race you. wouldn't you? 5.0 is easier to work with parts are easy to come by and last but not least ...you can find thousands of after market parts online for dirt cheap...ebay and recycler.com... mustang 5.0 the poor mans drag. i rather punk a 5.0 any day than punkin a 3rd generation slomaro.

arron, just a quick question. If you are only 14...what car do u have your mods on? Or is that what you want to once u get a car? Can 14 year olds drive in the state u live in?

Man I wish it was legal. Actualy thats the sig on my dads car, I am 14 fixin to 15 and when im 15 in 2 months im gonna get my hardship.Besides I have the money actualy dad does but hey even if i cant drive by myself its ok. My plan is to buy a kinda fixer upper and just work on it until i can legally drive . I would be goin for a 10,000 dollar car but that 4500 is goin on the cobra .Anyways I did the tune up on it today and it runs realy good. Its not cutting out at 55000 anymore pulls hard to 7000 . The easiest way to not cross thread the plugs is take the old wires and cut off the wire the cap the goes to the disbutor and put the spak plug in the holder thing it holds the plug tight straight and inline Just had to get that out of my system hehehe I wanna thank you guys for not flaming me yet
