Topic: Any tips?

Will be changing oil pan gasket friday because its blown out do you guys have any tips for me?
Also will be rolling the rear fenders so that I can fit some 275's back there without any rubbing, any special tools/techniques for that?

oil pan seal?
yeah, get a lift, and pull the motor up first.
plan on 4 hours of hell on your back. Don't be surprised if it leaks a little on startup. Don't cry, loosen it, check the gasket, and retorque it to specs.
BTW, torque to specs, absolutely, absolutely. Don't guess.

Yeah I guess eal gasket w/e.....
Would the specs be in a chiltons manual by any chance I would look myself but I am at work.

buy the one piece felpro rubber gasket. It makes the job a thousand times easier.

Forget the Felpro... Buy the FMS unit. The rails are steel coated in rubber! Just did mine this morning.
Pull out the engine as high as you can w/a hoist. Clean the K-member. Un-bolt the pan. Clean EVERYTHING very well! Slide the new gasket under the pan & over the back, then slide it over the front. Bolt it down dry...unless you have a canton, then you'll need some RTV in the corners.

I fully agree with 93pony. GET the OEM gasket. Dont get a felpro!!!!! Just take your time. Torque specs, torque specs, torque specs.

Say, what are the torque specs? I sheared off a bolt head today tightening that thing down! D'oh!

Use a dremel with a cut-off wheel to remove the fender lip instead of rolling it.

The only problem that I could forsee with cutting off the lip is that doesnt that lip give that area its strength and support?? I had a friend a couple of years ago cut the lips on each side and about six months later we noticed what looked like minor waves in the rear quarter panels. Could have been from something else but I really think that those lips on the inside of the wheel well are to strenghten the body. Correct me if I am wrong??

Have a pro do the fenders, that way if the paint gets screwed up you have someone to blame.

Go to the tire shop that you will be getting the tires at and ask them if they will roll them for you. I work at Americas Tire Company and there are a couple guys that work there that know how to do real good. I doubt they would guarantee you anything cause it is not one of their services but they might do it anyway.

Why would I trust someone I dont know working on my baby without them warranting there work?
The dremel idea is a great idea i think i'm gonna do that instead of rolling the fenders.
I got the 1 piece rubber seal gasket to use i'm doing it tommorow morning now.
