I had that ticking noise on the same side in my car and it turned out to a blown headER gasket. Put new ones on and it is no more

I have that exact same problem in my 88 gt mustang. I can't stand it sometimes when I am at idle there will be a ticking from the motor. I guess it is time for new heads, cams, and an intake... Which I really can't afford right now. If I wait to long will it be more of a problem? Like lets say a month or so?
