Only at start up? Sounds like a common chevy problem.... bad valve stem seals.

If it only does it on startup then it's not a head gasket.
Did it just all of a sudden happen or has it been progessing? I'm with st5150 on this one all the way. Valve guide seals

Definately not a head gasket, does this only on start up. there is no water in the oil. the problem is only on starting the car for a brief period. Is there anyhting that can be done to condition the valve seals, or is replacement the only alternative?
