I am by far no expert...but the cobra heads are 4V and the GT are 2V. Thus meaning there are 2 valves for intake, and 2 valves for hte exaust on each cylinder where the GT only has 1 for both. With the GT single cam....it can only do 1 intake and 1 exuast. that is why the cobra engine, a 4V are dual cam..overhead. You would only have half of your valves opening up...but what do i know.....i drive a slow 5.0 and can only fix basic things. my answer...NO IT WONT WORK

It will not work the block is completely different. as for the idea in general you are better off buying a complete setup from a wrecker and then installing it but even then it will probably be the worst thing you ever tried to do it is much harder then it seems, sorry to state the obvious but if you want a cobra the best thing you can do is save up for one.

If the blocks were the same, then you could probably do it. The timing chain on both the SOHC and the DOHC only turn one cam on each head anyway, the 2nd set of cams on the DOHC head are driven by a chain from the 1st set, so if you got the complete cobra heads (cams, cam gears and chains) they would work- providing the blocks are the same, which someone above said they weren't.

They actually discussed modular engines on Popular Hot Rodding TV last weekend, and had cutaways of both the SOHC and the DOHC engines.
