I wouldn't gut the cats on a custom pipe. I'd sell the custom x-pipe and buy a new off road pipe. It just seems like a waste to ruin a custom x pipe with cats when you could have just bought an off road one right away. Pipes with cats sell for more money, so you shouldn't lose too much money on the deal.

why would you thrash perfectly good cats on a new custom x pipe?
just cough up the $100 for an off-road H, geez.

yeah keep the H pipe or at least sell it - and buy an Off road pipe (I bought mine for $75 used) because a high flow cat'd h/x pipe is worth a good three times of any off road pipe, and also supposedly gutted cats don't flow as well as striaght through normal no cat style.
