Topic: r superchargers bad for the engine?

i want to put a supercharger in the engine. ne body have ne suggestions for that. like if it really effects the life of the motor? engine can blow up? what mods i have to do before i throw a charger into the engine?

yes a motor can explode. many of the guys on this board have done so. start with basic mods first, dont just throw a blower on.

as long as your tuner doesn't get greedy with the tune, you can put quite a bit of boost on a stock motor. with stock internals, any detonation can be devastating to your motor.
superchargers are nice for daily driven cars, because you aren't always on the boost and the car drives like a normal car, but it is always there, and ready unlike nitrous.
the first thing i'd put on any supercharged car is an MSD or other aftermarket ignition with its own rev limiter so you can avoid the stock rev limiter altogether. the stock limiter cuts fuel to the motor and under boost, that will kill the engine immediately. the aftermarket ignitions cut spark to keep rpm below the set limit.
the MSD dis4 has built-in timing retard functions to help with tuning with a supercharged car.

Basically,
if you run a stock kit with an intercooler, you will be ok for a while. There is a little saying : U play U pay ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)
If you blow your engine plan on at least 5K for a good rebuild.
It is hard to leave the S/C stock. You are going to want to pulley it down and go faster and faster. It doesn't stop, trust me. Then you will have to buy a custom fuel system ($2K) and better exhaust ($1K), then better brakes so you can stop. So if you have an extra $10K laying around, do it, if not buy a street bike if you want to go fast.
