my 98cobra is haveing an idle problem ,once and a while it sticks at 12to 1300 rpm so it has been to the dealer many times for it and they changed iac motor, crank sensor, tps sensor ,,so it still did it i drove it and there it was sticking at 1400rpm.but it doesnt do it all the time but it does it enough to bother me.so any ways one of my friends told me about carbon deposits in the throttle body ,now i know that ford puts a special coating on the throttle body so you cant clean it. now i dont know what this coating looks like but when i opened up the throttle body the whole thing including the butterflies were covered in a black shit it almost looked like under coating .it did not seem like something the factory would be it was thick and not evenly spread ,so my question is does anyone know what this coating looks like ,and any opinions would help before i pusue this

Sounds like Dealer 'BS' to me... But, if your that worried, just clean it with a wet rag...even a little bit of Simple Green shouldn't hurt any special 'coating'.

This coating is for real. Ford put it on to help resist carbon build up. Certain carb cleaners and chemicals can eat this coating away. As for what color it is, I can't help you because all the factory TB's I've seen have had a carbon coating build up.
As for your hanging idle problem, does it matter if the car is in gear or not?

no it does it in neutral and in gear ,,which makes it hard to drive the car right ,,cause when you shift you have to figure that you are already a few hundred rpm from where you should be because of the hanging idle...what do you recomend for cleaning it .the coating is not evenly spread so it does not look factory
