Never had forged pistons and anything after 94 will be a roller motor.
Lighting had hyp pistons.
I dont think this is the answer to your quest for more speed although the 351 is more durable than a 302 in respect to the stock block.

'69- '71 are the strongest stock 351w blocks.

They are also 9.2 deck height (if I remember right) as compared to 9.5.
I heard this can cause problems with pistons/intakes etc
I also heard they have a nice high nikel content

flat tappet is where it's at. I would completely punt on a roller/EFI 351w combo. You're giving up an easy 50+ HP by not going carb/flat tappet in a 351w. Should be able to make 500 crank HP on a NA 351w without breaking the budget, say 11:1 compression, decent heads, intake, cam, carb. 5.0 mag of all things has a nice 530 hp buildup of a 347 carbed motor this month. A 351w will be able to use many analogous parts to the 347, same heads, slightly different intake, same cam specs. That's my next plan anyways. Just have to source an appropriate shortblock .

No stroke the 351.
Im not happy with alot of the physics of a 351.
Now stroked, that is a different story.

I would also second that 69 to 71 recommendation for the block. You could add if you wanted roller cam and lifters. You could also swap a lot of things from your 302 however I would not recommend keeping the same heads for the 351W needs more airflow. Also it would depend on your current intake wether or not you could keep it. I have a 408W stroker if you have any questions. Coasthigh.com has a great deal for the block and strokers if you want, but they are a little expensive.

Hey punk-in I was going to use the 351 not just for more power but for durability. Then I could use more boost and never look back. Also if I use the early shit then I have to convert it to take a roller cam/lifters set up $$. Right?? It wont just take that stuff stock will it? Also My current heads will flow more that enough but thanks for commenting

Hey PunkIN I don't want to sink more $$$ into a weakly prone Block[5.0]. You know how it is. Is that you who was talking about the 5.0 motor that blew and bent the cam? I hear stories from my machine shop bout 5.0 blocks spliting down the lifter gally leaving the block in two pieces I know 351W blocks are much stronger and at the same time more cubes This way I could run alil more boost. Is that manifold a GT40 style cause that would be perfect so I could use my Cobra upper still and save $$. Ohh my motor only has 2k miles on it right now so it's still is real good shape. Hey thanks for the good advice and help you always give. P.S did you sell that manifold you had[351 GT40]????

I sold the manifold I had and my buddy has the same one but ported and extrude honed.
When I said rebuild I mean if you go to a 351 just stroke it cause you arent going to find one that is already built so you will prolly have to rebuild one and if so you might as well stroke it.
I know that stock 5.0 blocks are a gamble and if you go with a 331 at least use a Sportsman block.
Dont be like me with a prepped stock block

a cobra intake on a 351 would be a shame. I'm thinking victor EFI 351 or a spyder worst case, the TFS-R for 351's

Hey I just got off the phone W/ 3 truck wrecking yards who all want 600-700$ dollars for a 94 and newer 351W set up and they also confirmed 94 and up to have roller Cam/lifters. My new question is if I pick up a 91-92 351w and it does not have roller, what will it take to use my roller stuff from my 50L? Is there a whole new casting for 94 351W's or do they just drill and tap the lifter valley for the tin that holds the lifter guides? To me it would seem weird for ford to make a whole new casting in 94 just for the roller purpose?? Any help would be great

66 with the route you are going can I just ask you why you are so hell bent on a OEM hyd roller setup?
First of all I would never use the E cam you SAY you have in your 302, in the 351.
Second of all if you have to use the retrofit kit you cant use your E cam anyway cause they use smaller base circles with the retrofit kit.
I would just but a nice solid roller or hyd roller (not retrofit) or drop dime for roller motor (94 and up that will accept your E cam).
I would consider a sportsman block also.
For what it is worth if you are that worried about the longevity of your stock 8.2 block then go with a Sportsman or R302 block

Just save yourself some hassle and buy a 94 block.
You ready for the clearance issues? The added weight? The different oil pan headers intake dist? To modify the acc. brackets?
I say if you take a long hard look at it that for you it would be better to just buy a Sportsman 302 block or an A4/R302 block
