I talked to a friend of mine that works for Future Ford and was told that 98 Cobras have problems with 3rd gear synchro and valve lifters. Also the dual cams can cause owners problems. He has had to replace the engines before. Don't wanna scare anyone although I am a little worried if this is a real problem or just bullshit.Anyone input would be appreciated. I still love my Cobra!!! Toddbrew@hotmail.com

they were foolish to use the weak-ass t45 in the cobra in the first place, so transmission troubles are to be expected; especially with a power adder.
the hypereutectic crappy-ass pistons, and powdered-metal rods, while being inexpensive to manufacture, are too weak to withstand detonation should have been replaced with high-quality forged pieces at the factory.
i mean, they use an Italian foundry for the block casting, a german-made forged crankshaft, and top it with brittle parts???
WTF?
oh well, just my .05c

I agree. These are supposed to be top of the line mustangs next to the roushs. I hope I don't have too much trouble with mine in few years.

doesn't Roush basically add a body kit or a blower+body kit? As far as I know the extent of their "engine mods" include underdrive pullies, and said blower. I have heard they sell a 347 now with a warranty, but it is neither a DOHC nor sold OEM in an SN-95 cobra/GT ??

Hey Todd- You don't have anything to worry about. If you tranny is giving you problems start lining up another. As for your motor, in stock form nothing's gonna break on you. It might give ya some noise(sounding like a lifter tick) but they are very strong motors.

Hey fellas about this problem im not sure if its my car or is it the cobra in general. Whenever i come up to race a camaro SS after 3rd gear my car tends to lag a little. After about 3500rpms the ss has about a 1/2 car length on me. Isn't the SS putting out what the cobra put's out? if it does then why is mine lagging?
