When i step on the gas hard and i get to around 3500 rpm's or so my car will blow black smoke sometimes. what does this mean?

it just means it ran FAT at the moment
it added to much fuel every car does that from time to time

check for engine codes, possible bad O2 sensors (they default to rich), many a sensor could be to blame.

check all that out and it's still not right, if your motor is not stock, consider backing off the fuel pressure a bit.

one of your o2 sensors could be disconected, which will make you run open loop(full rich) try checking that.
