I have a 93 gt. I need to change my oil and i was wondering what kind i should use? My car has 160,000 stock miles on it.The people at kragen tell me to use valveoline 20w50. thanks

Despite the fact that I think most Kragen employees know nothing about cars, they are correct on this one. I work at Mostly Mustangs in Oakland and we use 20-50 on all our late model oil changes.

Don't run any synthetic oil. I still run regular $1 per quart 10-30w and have a lot more miles than you.... I tried 10-40w and 20-50w and didn't notice too much of a difference so I stuck with 10-30w. People differ, but this has worked for me for the last 90K miles. At the end, I don't think it makes much of a difference.

Sawson is correct. Synthetic oil is a waist of money for a high mileage 5.0. If your oil pressure tends to be on the low side then use a heavier weight oil, otherwise stick to the manufactures recomendations. 5w-30. Valveoline is a good low detergent oil. Mobil one is also good.
Do NOT get a Fram Oil filter. Stick with Motorcraft, AC delco, or Purilator.

How about a K&N Gold filter thats what i have been using and there great....they just cost $10.

Just my personal experience:
I bought my 1990 LX Mustang at a CHP auction in Sacramento with 120K. I have used 10W-30 synthetic oil since then and just recently I decided to change the top half of the motor (aluminum heads, intake, cam, flycut pistons, etc.). I had no problems and the car was running extremely strong now approaching 230K miles. When I took the motor apart I noticed there was no wear on rotating components such as crankshaft, pistons, rods, etc. The same could be said of the cylinder walls. No wear. The block remained at standard 4" bore. The car was obviously very abused during the first 120K miles and also very abused until the 230K mile rebuild. It visited the track a couple of times and full throttle blasts were an everyday thing. It never burned a drop of oil and oil pressure never dropped below 30 psi. I think using synthetic oil was an important factor in keeping the engine alive for so long and finding very little wear on parts.

I can attest to that statement about Kragens - I used to work there when I was first getting into cars and they would teach us shit, which I later found out was all bs just to get people to buy stuff. Anyways, I would recomend heavy ass oil. I dont mean "Heavyass oil" but I mean "Ass oil that is heavy" jp
