Originally posted by need-a-motor: [QB] I just got done putting this together. I bought a Dart Sportsman based shortblock from AD Performance. It was about $6500 with a custom Smog legal cam from ED Curtis, forged crank, h-beams, and Probe 20.6cc dished pistons for 9:1 compression. I used a 3.25" stroke crank and a 4.125" bore block. This price also included a damper, oil pan, lifters, billet steel flywheel, timing set, and cam installation. Now I already had a Vortech S-trim and small Edelbrock smog legal performers and Cobra intake. Since I had the blower, I just reused my heads and intake to give me a nice torquey motor that would have great drivability and pass smog. It just passed with flying colors a couple days ago with only 150 miles on it. This told me that I could have probably gotten away with a bigger cam if I was trying to go fast NA. However, blower cams have less overlap which also helps with emissions. Now, if I didn't already have heads, intake, and supercharger, I would have done it differently. If I were you, I would get the same block I did but use a 3.4" stroke crank to get you 363 cubes and an off the shelf big bore piston that will give you around 10:1. Your emissions will be higher and low end torque and midrange won't be as good, but you can get 120mph out of it in NA trim with the right heads and intake. That would be sweet. Just remember, if you go under 11.50 you have to put a cage in it along with a bunch of other stuff. I ran 11.43 with the stock shortblock, so I am expecting my blown 347 with my crappy heads and intake to hit a high 10 with 10psi. I will only get one try since I don't have a cage. I should have track results in a few weeks in NA trim. The blower will go back on later this year after I have 1000 miles on it and hopefully a mid 12 @ 110 mph NA. Good Luck!! [/QB]
