I just got some new valve cover and needed to use a spacer for them to fit. I pulled off the upper manifold(stock) and put the valve covers on then tried to put everything back together but I couldn't becuase my manifold cracked so i picked up a used one. I switched all the fittings to the new manifold when i put it on and got everthing back together. I turned on the car the rpms shot to 1,700 and it started smoking up real bad, water was leaking from the throttle body, and I had a leak from the manifold. I took everthing back off fixed the oil leak, the and the leak from the throttle body but it still has an intake leak an idles funny what could it be. Is there a difference betwenn a 5.0 manifold that came off a mass air car and a 5.0 manifold on a speed density car?

Are you sure the upper manifold is sealing to the lower. Some tall valve covers wont clear the vacuum port on the lower side of the plenum, the one that goes to the pcv, even with a spacer.Ive had to grind it down a little sometimes to clear.Check that.

So you did use TWO gaskets right? One between the upper and the spacer and one between the lower and the spacer.
Also, double check and make sure both gaskets are seated properly. I had the same problem w/ my car and the upper to lower gasket was not seated properly.
If it's neither of those things then check all vaccuum lines and connections, your TB gasket and EGR spacer gasket.
If that *still* doesn't fix the issue then check and make sure that the manifold you bought is not warped.

I checked the vacuum lines and i had one mixed up with other one but now the valve cover is leaking again. But for some reason my car shots up to 2,000 rpms after about 30 sec. it goes down and jumps from 1,000 to 1,3000. wtf is up that? [ December 07, 2005, 09:36 PM: Message edited by: PWR HNGRY 302 ]
