My friend has a TFS STREET intake, F-cam, stock heads, long tube headers w/no cats and 150 shot. He installed like a 1.5 inch spacer on the intake. I told him to get rid of it cause its costing him high RPM horsepower. What do you guys think? Am I wrong?

i doubt its costing him anything at all. ive seen guys at the track with 2" carb. spacers. which do the same thing. anthony should get a throotle body spacer i heard those helped.

why in the hell would you tell him to take it out?
generally the spacer increases the velocity of the intake charge so you would get more top end
his cam is mid to high end cam...
if anything he's loosing more lowend by using the spacer...
he wont see the top end of it
only way to tell is go to the dyno. one pull with the spacer one with out..
that cam and intake isn't matched to his heads, therefore the heads aren't flowing all that AIR efficiently.
so his spacer isnt really what he should worry about...
if your worried about robbing horse power look at his heads then a intake spacer

Exactly what 5PTSLOW said! Couldn't had said it better myself!
Get some heads then play around and fine tune it with the spacers [ March 13, 2003, 03:54 PM: Message edited by: COPFITY ]

a spacer on an EFI car makes for a longer intake runner, which will cause torque and HP to peak earlier. Not generally a good thing.

yep, thats what I thought. Yeah Mike, his heads are a problem, but why not get the exta hp that he can right now? I say dump that damn spacer.

Some people need the intake spacer to clear the valve covers. Stupid Trick Flow.
EDIT: That is for aftermarket heads though. How did he get that spacer to fit under the hood is what I want to know. I've got Trick Flow lower, upper, and 3/8" spacer and I had to cut away the fabric under the hood to get it to clear. [ March 13, 2003, 05:14 PM: Message edited by: The Nick ]

Another vote to ditch the spacer. Put a bag of ice on the intake at the track to keep it cool instead

do it, the spacer is robbing part of your top end power.
