I have a 1990 mustang gt v8 5.OL.Iam a daily driver.A couple of weeks ago I was driving normal when suddenly I redlined my car hard with the pedal all the way down to the floor on first gear beacuse I felt my car wasnt going fast enough............ever since that day my car has been running like crap, its slow,it doesnt pick up speed like it used to before I redlined the car......when I press the pedal the engine runs fast but the car runs very slow ....my rpm's can be on three and my car is very slowly picking up speed......could it be the engine that needs to be checked out or the clutch????

Sounds like a burnt clutch to me. In 5th gear if you punch th gas, do the RPM's climb, but your MPH doesn't increase?

Your clutch is gone but if you want to hang on to your motor for a while don't just "suddenly redline" it anymore
