I have a 96 Cobra, thats gonna finally be back alive this summer. This time Im gonna go out with a bang. And I was thinking about taking out the rear seat. Does anyone know how much the rear seats wieghs and would I get any significant changes in the 1/4 mile? I will also take out the front seats and get some nice light wieght RECARO seats, to shed some pounds. Thanks

If you completely remove the rear seat with all of its brackets and shit then you are looking at about roughly 10-20 pounds max. Those things are light as hell. The front seats are a bit heftier but not by much; I would say about 20-30lbs MAX per front seat. You will be amazed at how much lighter the seats are from recaro though!! Oh yeah, if you really want to remove some weight, mustanggt5091 and I removed about 10-20 more pounds off of my car by pulling out the sound insulation under the rear seat and front seats (up to the point where your feet rest on the carpet, no higher than that)
To the best of my knowledge that is all you are gonna save. Although it does help a little, I wouldn't expect more than maybe a .1.... But it is FREE and that is all that matters!!! [ July 01, 2003, 01:39 AM: Message edited by: Quick 88LX ]

The rear seat on a SN95 is supposed to weigh 37lb...I've taken the rear seat out of my Stang and I could see how its 37lbs....Its the brackets to make the rear seats fold down thats the heaviest part...The base is foam on the rear seats and weight maybe 5lbs...
If your looking for weight reduction remove the back seat and spare tire and all the carpet in the trunk...Everything adds up and the general rule is for every 100lbs taken off the car its worth a .10th in the quarter mile....

in my '93 coupe I think the seatbelts, bars, rear seat/cushion and all that was ~35 #'s.

Cool, thanks guys. I thought the rear seat would weigh more but I guess I was wrong. I would like to keep the insulation in the car just cause I dont want to go deaf anytime soon. But I will keep that in mind. The only time I did use the rear seat was for some extra ciricular activites .....hehehe . Damn its to tight back there....got a cramp once . I heard the front seats for the SN95 wieghed like 50lbs is that true?

that sounds right. I run stock '99 V6 cloth seats and they're about 42#'ers.
