Hi, I've been struggling with a lower intake that will not seal. Today I did a dry fit and realized that the Systemax sits on the block, leaving a 0.040" gap between the intake and heads.
Funny thing is, the bolt holes and runners line up perfectly with no gaskets and the 0.040" gap.
The 1262 I've tried a few times is a 0.06" thickness and it hasn't sealed.
I don't know if I should have the intake's end rails milled, or try a thicker gasket.
The 1262R is 0.09" thick. Who's run into this before, or can give me some advice on which route to go? As I understand it, a dry fit should leave the intake resting on the heads, with a small gap at the end rails. AFR 185s, Holley Systemax. Got the heads used, maybe they were decked...

Did you have a gasket kit? I don't know if this is right but when I put my friends motor together trick flow sent him extra thick looking gaskets with the kit. Maybe the extra gaskets were to make up for the gap? Just a thought

Different brands not wanting to mesh. I've seen it a few times before and had to send Jim my lower intake when he was building my engine to see if it needed to be milled.

I had the same issue kinda, the machine shop sent me a Windsor long block when I ordered a 302, the intake basically fell into the upper end.

Getting heads machined can be a problem if the take to much off.

Hope there are dowel pins in the heads. Lots of ppl misplace them and the heads don't sit square on the block.
