Im having big problems with my car after giving it some new sparkplugs. It hesitates really bad, and at idle it makes popcorn noises through the exhaust. I originally gapped the plugs at .054, and after a few times of checking that, i decided to check the old plugs gaps, and most of them were .045. Tried that on the new plugs and still no dice. I drove it for a few minutes, It gave me a check engine light, but I cant check it because I have no OBD2 reader and apparently Kragen cant check it. Maybe I should try autozone? The plugs im using are autolite 764 coppers.
And the thing that gets me is that the car ran fine with one of the plugs I pulled out having a damn near closed gap, and 3 covered in oil...Im assuming I need new valve seals on my drivers side head, but im doing a 4v swap, If I decide to keep this car much longer. Sounds odd. My brother had similar spark plug issues on his GN, and solved his problem by going with a whole new set. Try a set of NGK TR6s and see what happens. [ July 15, 2010, 05:47 PM: Message edited by: Rigo5.0 ]

2 things hit me right away...
#1 did you use platinums or any other non copper stock style plug ? if yes... ditch them and gap the stockers at .048" (yes i know stock gap is .052" ... it sux)
#2 check ALL plug wires at dizzy and plug. if they don't "snap" on... they are not on and spark has to jump and is weak and not firing good

It will be very difficult for the op to check anything distributor related on a 96 GT, but yes, make sure the plug wires are snapped down properly on the caps.

I fixed it, it turned out to be that since my number 4 cylinder didnt wanna thread in easily..a lil rust in there? Any ways i put wd40 on the plug to get it to thread easier, and that worked but I believe it fouled out my plug...I put a old one in and its good to go now.
