Ok maybe somebody can help me out.. When I am driving mainly at night, when my lights are on. My volt meter and will be jumping all over the place like it's surging. This happens while I am sitting still and also when I am driving. It's holding a charge but the headlights and inside lights will dim also. I have put a brand new battery and upgraded to a 3g alternator which I just had tested under a load and was fine.. Anybody have any clue what is going wrong is there a fusible link somewhere in the wires from the alternator that could have gone bad. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated..

Sounds like a flakey connection.
There is a fuseable link. One end connects to the starter solenoid, the other to the cable that comes from the alternator.

That fusible link was wrapped in tape from the factory on mine.

The black wires with orange stripes are your power wires. About 18" after they leave the alternator, they unite into one thick black wire with an orange stripe. This wire leads all the way up to the starter solenoid.
You probably want to print this:

yea thanks for the diagram ... I taped up the black wires cause didn't have any use for them since I upgraded the alternator, I ran a 4 guage power wire from the back of the alternator to the battery
