i am going to go out on a limb here and say the cam is different (not a roller, smaller specs, and possibly different firing order) and compression

Cam Firing Order Distributor drive gear Compression Forged vs. Cast pistons (depending on year) And if it's an older 302, the balance of the engine.

JohnB thank you for the help. You helped with my firing order ? also. So is it safe to say that I have an H.O. with the following
E303 roller cam Steel dist. drive gear (because of the roller cam) 10 to 1 compression Probe pistons 50oz balancer with matching flexplate. I am just trying to confirm my firing order is correct.
the motor is new from DSS. I guess I could just call them but trying to figure this out quickly

My car was runnign like shit because I had it set up for the H.O firing order when I first fired it up. I didn't know and when I switched it to the non H.O, it was quite orgasmic to hear it run.

Cam is what dictates the firing order. Your firing order would be 13726548.
