My buddies car was hit on the left side of the rear bumper. There is barely any damage, but now the car's fuel pump wont turn on when I turn the key. do you think the pump went bad in an instant? Could it be something else. The car was hit on the opposite side from where the pump is located. Worst part is that he has a full tank of gas. Any sugestions would be great [ May 16, 2003, 06:59 PM: Message edited by: BadASS50 ]

Its the inertia switch. Shuts off the pump during a collision. In my Explorer its under the passenger side of the dash. Check your manual for the location in a stang.

Its not a bad fuel pump, its your enertia switch..
When the car got rear ended it triggered the enertia switch..Its justa switch that stops the fuel from being pumped incase of a fire....
To reset the switch, go inside the trunk and look for a rubber grommit or a hole where the back of the tail lights are....There will be a little plastic button that you just push down, it should click and then your car will start after a couple af cranks or until the fuel gets to the injectors...
