Why not change it? Its a cheap part thats easy to replace and you'll know if you oil pressure readings are right. I say do it just for the peace of mind

I don't think it should be bouncing around. All of the mustangs that I had were always steady right above the half mark. The only time it wasn't was when I had to replace my sending unit once. I've had 2 91's, a 90, 2 89's, an 86 and a 85. If you really think about it, no new car has a fluctuating oil pressure. So it would only make sense that our cars shouldn't as well. Anyways, I'd replace the sending unit 1st.

stock electric oil pressure gauges are designed to not bounce around because the owner of the car will freak out. If you put a mechanical gauge on an engine, you would see that oil pressure is not nearly as constant, but it would be WAY more accurate.

the stock gauges are the worst get an aftermarket then look

the cluster has a chip called an anti slosh module and it prevents the oil and fuel in the tank from moving the needle
