yeah, when the coil on my truck went bad it still had spark, but wouldn't start, just crank and crank and crank.
new coil fixed it

I have an MSD coil and a stock coil and it won't start with either one.

I put MSD ignition (box, dist, coil, wires) on my 86GT. About a week later it whenever I drove it for more than a few hours it would just die and then it wouldn't start until it cooled off.
One day when it did that I was feeling different things on the engine to see if they were hot, the distributor was extremely hot, so I thought maybe the electronics inside were just shorting out from the heat. I took the TFI module off a stock distributor and put it on the MSD distributor and never had a problem afterwards.
Might want to try that out.

I've already replaced the TFI module, no change ![[Frown]](frown.gif)
I am going to replace the ECT sensor because the more i read about it the more it sounds like the most likely failure.
Anyone know what the sensor on the lower intake on the driverside sensor is for? its the same size as the ECT Sensor, i am not talking about the gauage sensor at the front of the lower intake on the driverside, this sensor is right behind that one at an angle into the lower intake.

Try that, post it up in the ford sale section... I'm sure someone has one from a fox that will work!

Well it wouldn't do it at all for me today. I couldn't get it to not start, i don't know what the means. I went and bought a new pip sensor and a new ECT sensor. I installed the ECT sensor just for the hell of it.
No idea whats going on here. I didn't even touch it all day today and it just kept starting. One time it didn't start and i thought thank god and then i turned the key and it started WTF!

How old are the coils you have? If they're not new then I would suggest trying a new one. A new MSD coil cured my hot start problem on my 91. Good luck.

they are pretty old. But my spark is nice and blue so its getting enough power.

so was the spark from my truck when it wouldn't start, new coil fixed it...
spark, fuel, compression, cranking starter...all it takes to run

well i think its running rough now because the alternator isn't giving the entire car enough power. It has started everytime i've tried so either the problem has moved onto somehting else (the rough idle) or i fixed it and it just took a while for the computer to reset. (i did clean the ECT sensor before i replaced it)
