If it has a straight body with no accidents in its history (no salvage title either!), then I would buy it. Then, simply strip down the driveline and replace EVERYTHING with stock/rebuilt stuff or build a dream-car. Wouldn't hurt to replace the suspension either

sounds like a good beginner or project car especially if it's all in good working order.

I agree If it is a clean title w/ no frame or major body damage and in decent shape I would pick it up

check for uneven body panel gaps, bent or damaged frame rails, rust, carpet condition (bad looking crusty carpet is sometimes a sign that there's probably some rust under it from sloppy ass freaks spilling drinks). Look for obvious torque box damage and a clean title. Check the cowl for rust and look for rust around the windows and at the bottoms of the doors. After that... if it runs you've found a good platform to build on.
I've been shopping around with a buddy lately for a old school Nova and we've gotten the pre-buy inspection down to a pretty good routine. Any rust through metal (holes) is a deal killer. You can only see 1/10th of the rust that is actually there so holes are major bad.

Personally I wouldn't touch it. For me the reasons being its an 87, its a GT, its a AT and has 300,000 miles.
I like 89's because they were the last year for tilt and the first year on speed dens. change. I like 90-93 because they came with black interiors but I could do without the airbags. I like LX's because they are lighter and well lets face it...how many GT panels are in tip top shape? I like 5 speeds because they are just funner to drive and I'm not saying 300,000 mile mustangs done run good but to me that is barrowed time depending on the previous owner(s).
Go with your gut though. If it was an 89 lx or gt I'd go for it. Buuuut it IS only $1k.

My dad has an 89gt with 260,xxx miles on it. The thing still has the original water pump...I guess it all depends on how you take care of it.
