Ok I just dropped a stock motor in. I have a 89gt and I have replaced all cooling parts. New radiator new water pump new thermostat. I have a black magic fan and for some reason the car will only over heat after driving it for about 30 mins. It does not spew or over flow but it does get up to about 220. It seems to only do it on the freeway and usaully this would mean a clogged radiator but Its brand new. The water pump is turning the correct way and the fan is on a manual switch so I know its working. I have clean oil No water in it at all. Timing is at 13 degrees.

Any help here would be appreciated the engine is stock and runs very good but its seems to get hot while driving on the freeway. It was around 75 degrees the other day and and it got up to 220. Im trying to figure what else it could be I have burped the system sevral times just to make sure and still it over heats. I have replaced all cooling parts in the last 2 weeks so its all brand new. Motor has 50k on it. Any help. Thanks

Is there a chance you could have put the T stat in wrong? Did you hook the fan up right? Could it be pushing not pulling? I would double check.

I have checked both of these. The fan is pulling air away from the engine. The stat is in correctly. [Frown] Thanks

you want the fan to be blowing on the motor, sucking air through the radiator.

Exactly when I put my hand by the fan it is blowing towards the engine. Maybe the black magic isnt putting out enough or maybe its my pullies but would pullies make it over heat like that?

The pullies wouldnt make it run that hot. What temp thermostat did you use? Sounds to me like an air bubble then...

180 stat. I have tryed to clear the system of a ir bubble 3 times just to make sure. Jacked the car up in the air and let it warm up. I hope its not the head gaskets. The motor was complete when I got it so the heads never came off. Maybe I need to do a leak down test?

Does the car keep getting hotter? The thermostat has to be working, at least somewhat otherwise it would overheat in about 10 minutes after starting it. Do a pressure test on the radiator and see if it holds pressure. Good Luck [patriot]
