just wondering what really is the break in period on new motor. is it 500-1000 miles? some say beat on it so it runs hard and some says not? what is it?

it really depends on you and what kinda parts you used. ive seen people break their motors in on engine dyno's. i put a new motor in the fastback in january. it went in on a friday night, drove it to the exhaust shop the next morning, adjusted the valves shortly after, and then started beating on it that same night. i spun it past 7 grand numerous times, and havent really looked back since. ive changed the oil about a dozen times since. i think she's fine [burnout]

Agreed it depends on parts but commonly 500 miles is the norm. Usually no synthetic oil till 3000 or so miles.

I really couldn't restrain myself more than 5seconds before i jumped on the throttle with my new motor. Still runnin hard though, and I've changed my oil quite a few times as well [patriot]
