ok this has been going on for awhile now.it happens between shifts if i dont keep the rpms up. also when i am accelerating then let off then accelerate again. i have h/c/i combo. more then enough fuel from what i know. any help appreciated

i've done that. could it have something to do with not running right plugs or having them gapped wrong?

Yes it could, saw that all the time at apex. What heads are you running? If their not ford you need a gasket style plug and not a stock taper style plug. What happens is you end up not firing in the hole but on the outside of the combustion chamber

What timming are you running?....And I had exactly the same problem and it was one of my smog/diverter valves....

Edit~ I was also getting oil in my intake manifold from my PCV valve, you might wanna make sure there is no oil in the intake.....Oil in the intake normally causes detonation, but definately something to look into....

i am running tfs high ports. and im running autolite 24's or 25's cant remember off hand. where is the smog diverter valve? all my smog componenets i bleieve are removed un less i forgot to remove something.
