I have a 66 mustang originally a 289. I want to put a 302 stock block and tranny in there. my question is, would the 302 block mount to original 66 motor mounts? also I want to keep the 302 fuel injected so I know the harness has to come with it, do I need the computer from a late 80s to early 90s mustang also?
one more thing, would the gauge setup differ or will I need to rewire everything? let me know, no rush . thanks

You will definitely need an ECM of proper application. And the gauges will work fine with the senders from the original engine swapped in to the new MILL.As far as the motor goes if memory serves me it drops in Not 100% as it has been a long time since i did one. maybe someone has more info on this but i think it is fairly simple and a drop in. I have swapped the 2.3 in many early mustangs with no issues.

It will swap over easy for the most part. Why not keep the 289? You'll need a different radiator for sure, the lower port is on the passenger side on a 289.

The 289 and 302 on the exterior are the same engine. Motor mounts will swap and accessories.

To go fuel injection, the easiest way to do it is to get a swap harness. This is probably the least expensive one on the market. https://www.ronfrancis.com/products.asp?dept=295 You could splice a Fox body harness into the '66 harness yourself, but unless you're good at wiring and reading schematics, it's probably easier to just buy a pre-made harness. You'll want to find an A9P or A9L ECU. You'll find them here in the classified for $100.
