Topic: Will OE cobra brackets work on a fox??

So I've hit a road block and I'm trying to figure out my options. I bought sum 5 lug axels from my classmates 96 cobra to do my 5 lug cobra brake swap, and I got gt/v6 brackets from a friend. I have OE cobra brakes off a 96 or 97 and there going on a 91 gt. The problem was that the caliper wouldnt fit over the rotor. I'm assuming because I don't have the cobra brackets. Now my question is my buddy is giving me OE cobra brackets will these e the same as the north race brackets or will it not work. I measured the rear end in the 96 cobra and it's about a inch longer then my fox, so the brackets may not work because there are OE cobra brackets and not the north race brackets to keep fox track width. Any info help for the people who have done this swap let me know.
Also getting the ball joints in seems impossible I got the 94 up moog ball joints ad for the life of me can't get them in I'm pulling the control arms 2maro and pressing them in hopefully that works.

the oem cobra brackets will work if it is all 94'-04' cobra. ball joints will only come out with a puller or press, and use the 94+ ball joints if you have 94+ spindles

The 94-98 Cobra axles will fit in your fox rearend housing but will increase track width by about 3/4" per side.
With these axles you will need the factory Cobra, Mach1, Bullitt rear flange plates, as well as Cobra/Mach1/Bullitt rotors and calipers.
The NRC brackets are designed to use the stock Fox width (stock 4 lug, Ranger 5 lug, or their fox length axles) and use SN95 brakes.
The GT/V6 flange plates won't work with the Cobra rotor as they were designed for the smaller 10 1/2" and the Cobra rotor is 11.65.
The caliper body is the same between all, the slider bracket however is different to allow for the wider vain rotor.
If you are going to use the Cobra axles, you can use the GT/V6 flange plate and go with GT/V6 calipers and rotors, OR you will need the 94-98 Cobra or Mach1/Bullit flange plate, caliper, rotor to install.

You will also need cobra pads as they are thinner than gt pads. If you use cobra rotors.

^ thats because the calipers are the same v6/gt/cobra "rear" calipers only they used slimmer pad to adjust for the wider width rotor. these same calipers are also found on the ford taurus.

The caliper body is the same between the V6/GT/Cobra, the slider bracket on it however IS different to allow for the wider vain rotor. Pad has slightly less material than a V6/GT as mentioned as well.

As far as brake pad thickness the GT brake pads are thinner. I've had to use GT pads on my 98gt (with cobra brakes) my bros 96 cobra & a cousins 97 cobra because the cobra brake pads would not work on any of the three cars even though they all have cobra brakes and this was trying them from oreilys, autozone & napa. Unless all three local stores have wrong part numbers, GT pads were only ones That worked.

Quicksilver91: I'm doing this swap on my fox right now but might be going back to sn95 axles bcuz it looks like brake lines aren't going to clear my coil overs with fox disc brake setup so if your still interested in fox axles w/cobra caliper brackets

All brake manufactures use FMSI (friction materials standards institute) standards
The Mustang uses an FMSI#-D627 pad for the rear,
There are two pads manufactured for the 94-04 Mustang
The 7504-D627 which is 17MM (.673)thick friction material (GT/V6)
The 7524-D627 which is 15MM (.591)thick friction material (Cobra/Mach1/Bullitt)
There is a 2mm difference in pad thickness between the two
Some of the retailers will try and stock 1 thickness pad to cover both models or their computers are no accurate.
