I am debating between the Holley Street Avenger Part #: 0-80670 and the 0-83670..
They are both 670 cfm, 4 barrel, double feed, electric choke etc.. The ONLY difference is that the 0-80670 is ZINC, and the 0-83670 is ALUMINUM.. does it matter which one I get?
I will be running a set up with aluminun heads, if it matters??
Any advice?? [ December 04, 2012, 11:41 AM: Message edited by: Blow_U_In_Reverse ]

The difference is just the finish. Get whatever one looks nice to you.

Those street avengers will not pass the visual inspection for smog. You are going to need a carb with the ford bowl vents. You could change them on the avenger.
I think you would be a lot better off finding a stock 4180 carb. They will support more hp than you are talking about making. They are 600's. The idle circuit is tuned to the 302 and will give you the best drivability and milage.
If you have the ability to tune the idle fuel feeds ( these are holes in the metering block that will probably need to be made smaller) and idle air bleeds (thes are in the main body and will probably need to be drilled) on an avenger you could get it tuned like the 4180. Those avengers are tuned very generically so they work on anything from a 302 to a 460. They will be rich at idle and tip in.

so the 4180 will pass visual & everything?? Do you know what cars they are for?? Are they OE? How will they do with a 306 with aluminum heads, custom cam, edelbrock carb intake??

I am not sure your goal or mechanical skill, but you are not far away, money wise, from just doin an efi conversion. When I was in your position years, years ago....that is what I did.

i was thinkin about going efi, but i wanna just keep this car carb.. its a 82, gotta have that carb under the hood.. i have almost everything already to do efi conversion.. but personally i wanna keep it carb just to keep a hint authenticity to the car..

The 4180 is the stock carb from an 83-85 mustang. They have 4 corner idle adjustment witch is real nice. They were also on trucks. They were on 302's, 351's and 460's. If you get one that was on a truck you want one that was on a 302. Some truck carbs are 2 corner and some are 4 corner adjustable.
You will not find a new one you will buy a rebuilt one or buy a used one and rebuild it yourself. Just be sure to use only a Holley kit. No generic brand kits.

Also the 4180's have annular boosters witch atomize fuel better and will give a stronger mid range and better fuel economy.
Ford owned the patent on them. That is why for years no one made a carb with annular boosters.

I have a spare 4180. Probably could use a clean up and rebuild. I also have a stock 4 barrel aluminum intake. Both came off an 85, or so the guy I got it from told me.
